Mexico City - We leave one week from tomorrow. YEAH!!! I think I actually stopped thinking about "the wait" for a moment or two...nah, not possible. Anyone out there who has been to Mexico City please feel free to share suggestions for which pyramids, historic sites, art galleries, museums to visit. 8 days and we're off! (Oh no, did I really just start ANOTHER countdown? Lord help me...)

I'd definitely visit Tenochtitlan/Teotihuacan (the Aztec pyramids). I'd also spend an afternoon at Xochilmilco (floating Aztec gardens). At Xochimilco you can eat lunch on a boat as you're paddled down the river, listening to mariachis and purchasing corn on the cob from other boats.
I also adore the Basilica down there, beautiful.
Plus, there's a museum located at UNAM (university)-it's definitely worth checking out.
The last time I was there, there was a great exhibit at the palace-medieval torture devices! It was an incredibly interesting day.
Have fun-and share pictures! I have family down there and I miss it so much.
Thank you so much for the suggestions Amanda - no worries, there will be no shortage of pictures!
FUN! I've never been so I'm no help, but I look forward to hearing about it!!
I always wanted to see what was left of Tenochtitlan, the Aztec City, that was recently being excavated from downtown Mexico City. Last I was in Mexico, there were the political huelgas from Obrador and much to be worried about in the area, so we didn't go through and see the progress. But, if they've got it excavated, it would only be too cool to see now.
BTW, Tenochtitlan and Teotihuacan are totally different places. Teotihuacan are the pyramids of the ancient peoples that disappeared for some unknown reason is not in Mexico City. But, it is well worth the trip, as it is a very spiritual place.
Tenochtitlan is in Mexico City.

we went last summer. loved Tiotichuacan (sp?). Def. don't miss Cafe Tacuba. it's in the historic distict and they have the best tamales EVER. very famous place.
go out in Condesa and Roma...you'll feel like you're in NYC. Take a taxi everywhere. You can pay a flat fee for however many hours you're out w/ your driver...use the taxi recommended by your hotel. don't just flag one down (might get robbed). Don't miss the Zocalo. You can eat at like a Howard Johnson's right on it...you'll look down on it. The food is mediocre, but the view is great. La Opera Bar is also great. in Historial district. Poncho Via shot a hole in the ceiling. SO JEALOUS! HAVE FUN!
Ahhhh... I'm so jealous. Enjoy every single minute of it- then come back and share all the details so we can all feel like we got away.
