Presenting the adoptive mom's equivalent to "babyweight"... "babyWAIT"!
Official definition (well mine anyhow):
Babywait: The additional pounds an adoptive mommy puts on while waiting for the referral of and union with her child. The official amount varies depending on the actual amount of time waited and circumstances that evolve during the wait. The wait, and subsequent babywait, can have negative side effects however those are quickly outweighed by the delightful feeling one enjoys while munching on snacks and catching up on the latest news on the blogs. You can tell if you've fallen victim to babywait if you are in the process of adopting a child and notice that your favorite pair of jeans aren't quite fitting the way they used to.
The solution to babywait?
1. A quick referral, court date, and travel date. (duh)
A more reliable solution to babywait?

I love it! That's so funny. I'm thinking the best solution is the quick referral, court date, and travel date. The treadmill is just no fun!
I agree! I've gained 15 pounds since we started our journey!Good thing our dossier is in Ethiopia!!
I lost 15 lbs. of babywait from the time we learned our travel date til now - so I think the craziness of getting ready to travel + travel + holding and now chasing a baby non-stop works too! I really don't remember being able to sit down and eat for the first month he was home! So, forget that treadmill - after the babe comes home, you won't need it! :)
Thank you so much for your words of encouragement. The outpouring of support from you bloggers is a lifeline.
Thanks for your comment on _my_ blog about the con artist...sorry to hear you were duped, too.
I love your blog and hope everything proceeds smoothly.
There was a great Ethiopian restaurant on the UWS of Manhattan a 10-20 years ago. I loved the ambiance and the food. It was called the Blue Nile. I don't think it's around anymore, but it taught me a lot about the food -- and the culture of food -- of other nations. I also learned about honey wine from that restaurant. Yum.
As for the Baby Weight/Wait, that's probably true, but there's also the holiday weight to consider! BTW, I gained 15 or 20 lbs when Shirra was pregnant with our first, and I didn't lose most of that till recently (11 years later)!
Good luck! And let's get together again soon...our treat!
Oh my, the first solution sounds SOOO much better! Thanks for your comments!
Oh, that's funny.

That was great! And made me laugh.. I needed it today!!!
I love it! I have it! Serious babywait. I hate treadmills & I love injera! One set of parents who had been through it told us that they coped with the wait by eating raw brownie mix, among other things. I thought this was great and wondered why I had never done it before - made the mix just to eat it raw. I have a box ready to go, but I keep waiting for the worst waiting day ever, and I don't think it has happened yet. I'm guess I'm saving it for some kind of silver lining for a really bad day.
Congratulations in advance for whatever the big work news might be.
